The way the promotion/relegation games work is the following: at the end of the regular season teams will be playing promotion/relegation games where the winner will play in the higher conference and the loser will play in the lower conference the following year.  The team in the higher conference will host the promotion relegation game, and it will be played on a neutral site if possible to be determined by the division coordinator.  If promotion/relegation games are tied at the end of regulation they will go to two 10 minute golden goal over time periods, and will be followed by an IHSA shoot out if the score remains tied.

*NOTE: teams will not be allowed to compete in the Premier or First Divisions unless they have Varsity and Junior Varsity Levels.

The Premier Division:

A     The top four teams at the end of the 7 game regular season from the premier division are exempt from the promotion/relegation process and will have a bye.

B     However, teams that finish 5-8 in the premier division will have to play a promotion/relegation game with teams 1-4 in the First division where P5 will play F4, P6 will play F3, P7 will play F2, and P8 will play F1.

C     If two or more teams are tied at the end of the regular season the following procedure will be used to break ties

1.        Result of head to head competition

2.        The total number of regulation wins during the season

3.        Goal difference.  A maximum of 4 goal per game (+4 awarded for either a 5-0 or a 7-1 victory)

4.        Least number of goals scored against.  A maximum of 4 goals against per game.

5.        Greatest number of shut-outs

6.        Drawing lots by the CPSSL Coaches Committee

The First Division

D     The top four teams at the end of the 7 game regular season will play the bottom four teams from the

premier division to see if they can gain promotion into the Premier Division. (See B)

E      Teams that finish 5-8 in the First Division will have to play promotion/relegation games with the teams that finish 1 & 2 in the second divisions north and south (F5 played 2ndN#2 in spring 2004, however and F5 will alternate between 2ndN#2 and 2ndS#2 every year and the other teams will follow.  Consequently F5 will now play 2ndS#2 in the spring of 2005)

F    F5 v 2ndS#2, F6 v 2ndN#2, 7 v 2ndS#1, F8 v 2ndN#1  (F stands for First Division, 2nd for Second Division, 3rd for Third Division, N for North Division and S for South division)
